GeoRose 0.5.0 – A Free Geological Rose Diagram and Stereonet Plotting Program

We are happy to announce that GeoRose 0.5.0 is released.

With GeoRose 0.5.0, users are able to plot stereonet diagram with plane data and lineation data for both equal area and equal angle projections, . Users can fully control the style of the diagram as in rose diagram plotting mode.

At the same time, polar area diagram is ruled out in this release. If you use GeoRose for roots directions statistics, please don’t update it to 0.5 version.

Your feedback will be very welcome.

  1. Would be nice to be able to create rose diagrams for dip only. Currently the Dip/Plunge button generates a diagram on 0-360 grid as opposed to 0-90 for dip angle.

  2. Is there any way to separate two sets of strike/dip/direction data on the same stereonet plot? As in one set in one symbol/colour and another set in a different symbol/colour? Thanks..

    • No such a function available with current version.
But you may be able to achieve it by overlapping two transparent images generated by GeoRose.

      • Hi Mr Yong,

I appreciate your free program, which I’ve downloaded an hour ago. To start with, I’d like to plot my structural data onto equal area stereonet. Can I use the following format
        1st column: strike angle (azimuth)
        2nd column: dip angle
        3rd column; sense (e.g. NW).

        Thank you for your advise.

        • GeoRose cannot process the format you mentioned. You need to convert you data to 360 degree format. It’s a good idea to accommodate different file format. Thanks.

  3. its very useful for me,
Yes, it is highly useful for me
    useful in rock mechanical study,
    teaching purposes,
